Configuring MFA for Veeam Backup and Replication v12

The purpose of this blog post is to provide the guidance and the steps needed to configure MFA for Veeam Backup and Replication. For the purpose of this demo, I am currently using v12 of Veeam Backup and Replication (VBR). Once VBR has been successfully launched, please select the Menu option in the upper left hand corner and then click on Users and Roles. Shortly thereafter, a small pop-up window (Security) should appear that will include a list of accounts with their respective roles. At the bottom of this pop-up window, you should have two options to select from. Please select Require Two-Factor Authentication For Interactive Logon, followed by OK.

Please keep in mind, MFA (Multi-Factor Authentication) is not supported with any use of groups and you may encounter the following error:

In order to proceed, you’ll need to create a new login. To begin, select Add followed by OK.

Add User

Add the new user account and then select OK.

Once the account has been added successfully, the VBR console must be closed in order for the changes to apply.

Select Connect at the login screen and you will then be provided with a QR code on the following pop-up. Please scan the QR code with your preferred MFA app (or enter the key code manually) and then provide the activation code to complete the setup.

Thank you to everyone at Veeam, the Veeam Vanguard Program and the #vCommunity for your support, including the opportunity to share my experience with you.

If I have missed anything or if you have any suggestions, please let me know. If you’re interested in anything related to Veeam on my blog, please click on this link.
